    Life Size Mammal Mounting With Steve Niehaus
    Presented by Steve Niehaus -
    Steve has been a long time member and is such a talented taxidermist. Steve will be demonstrating the intricacies of mounting a Gray Fox. This unassuming quiet gentleman is one of the best that the WTA has to offer to give a seminar. This may run over into the live mounting on Saturday.

    Shooting Sporting Clays Begins
    We'll start with Shooting Sporting Clays. You will, of course, need to bring your own guns and gear. 4 boxes of shells are needed, ammo is available at the club. It's $10 for sporting clays, plus $2 if you would like to compete in the Louis Shoot, so we can gather up some prize money. Later in the day, from 2-4p, trap and skeet shooting will be open for $5 per round.

    Whitetail Seminar with Clint Rickey
    Fresh off of his Second Best in World Whitetail showing at the World Show, Clint is willing to share with us his whitetail deer finishing techniques. We're thrilled to have Clint sharing with us, but, you guys that are into shooting will have a tough choice on whether to throw lead or take in this valuable seminar from one of the best in the world!

    Door County Candle Shop
    A trip has been planned for the women to visit Door County Candle Shop. There is also a nice coffee shop nearby for a bite to eat and I heard rumors of a winery in the vicinity

    "Artist"; I think that the word is too casually thrown around our profession. There are some that are distinguished from most of us. From the background painting to the habitat creation to the fine taxidermy, this show piece that will never be in a show is something to see. The artist responsible — Mike Orthober who will be our host for an hour before the museum opens to the public.

    The Live Mounting Event

    Every summer, this thing is a hit. We get several members to mount different things all at once. You can watch the one that you really want to see or wander from one to another and pick up tons of taxidermy tips. Anyone is welcome to come and mount something. Get a customer piece knocked out while we have some fun, any skill level is welcome, maybe you'd like to work with a WTA expert to guide you. Just call Jeff Specht or Ron Grams if you would like to participate. There is a lot of room for some new people to jump into this fun afternoon's activity!

    Kid's Activity - Homemade rockets
    Presented by Ryan Wolf -
    Our tallest kid, and little known rocket scientist, Ryan Wolf will be building and launching rockets with the kids! Ryan has assured us that this is for all ages and no flame retardant clothing will be needed - some one get the video rolling! ( Seriously, this will be fun and safe for the kids and no head count is necessary for the kids to take part)

    In the conference room at the AmericInn, the ladies will be learning how to make and use essential oils. There should be enough made during the demonstration, for everyone to take a little home with them!

Lunch on Friday and Saturday

Lunches will be brought to the gun club. The menus haven't been set yet, but expect some kind of picnicy kinds of food.The cost will be $6 to $8 to cover the cost of the food. Beverages are available at the club, soda is 1$, beer is 2$ and bottled water is available, no carry-ins are allowed.

Fish Boil

The fish boil, with all the trimmings, will start at 5 pm. The cost will be $12 to $15, dependent on the cost of the fish at the time we order it. There will also be hamburgers and hot dogs if you don't care for fish. You must call or email the Orthober’s if you plan to attend as a head count is needed for ordering the fish and other foods. Rod & Gun Club

Most of our activities will be at the Door County Rod and Gun Club. We are not being charged for use of the facility, so the Rod & Gun Club is relying on beverage sales for some income — a pretty good deal for the WTA. A few items to note:

  • No beverage carry-in’s allowed. Water, soda and beer are available at a reasonable price.
  • No hard liquor is allowed on the premises. Water and soda are $1, beers $2.
  • Trap and skeet are $5 per round and sporting clays will be $10. Mike Orthober is planning a Louis Shoot competition, if you plan to compete, there will be a $2 fee to gather up a purse and spice up the shooting. The sporting clays requires 4 boxes of shells. Ammo is for sale at the club. The sporting clays is at 10am and at 2pm to 4pm on Friday, 8/11. Friday will be open trap and skeet. Bring your own guns and gear — of course.

Our host hotel, AmericInn Lodge and Suites in Sturgeon Bay, will be where our evening socials will take place. They have an outside area for our use. Everyone should bring their own coolers, ice, beverages, chairs, games, and might as well throw in the bug spray. There is an indoor area as well, if we have bad weather.


The competition is open to all members. The mounts will be judges by WTA members at a distance of 5 feet.

Walnut Creek Hardwood has once again donated four awards for our show. Make sure to use their products to be eligible to win these awards.

One mount will be chosen by our judges as the best overall mount.
